Mammal Study Merit Badge

    Requirement 1 –Explain the meaning of “animal,” “invertebrate,” “vertebrate,” and “mammal.” Name 3 characteristics that distinguish mammals
    from all other animals.
    Requirement 2 – Explain how the animal kingdom is classified. Explain where mammals fit in the classification of animals. Classify 3 mammals from
    phylum through species.
    Requirement 3 –Tell why all mammals do not live in the same kind of habitat.

9:00am - 12:00pmWetland Observation (must be done in pairs)
    Requirement 3 - Spend 3 hours in each of two kinds of natural habitats or at different elevations. List the different mammal species and individual
    members that you identified by sight or sign.

1:15pm – 2:15pm
    Requirement 4d – Make and bait a tracking pit.

2:30pm – 3:45pmMake and hang bat houses
    Requirement 5 – Working with your counselor, select and carry out one project that will influence the numbers of one or more mammals.

4:00pm – 5:00pm
Dinner

5:15pm – 8:15pm - Forest Observation (must be done in pairs)
